       (A) Obeying the Traffic Laws
I am often very afraid to cross-large wide streets, I always go to the traffic light and use the crosswalk, but many times I have been frightened. When the light changes to green, I still need to look both directions to check the traffic. On many occasions a speeding motorcycle or bicycle or once a truck drove past the red light and across the pedestrian’s. When I have my bicycle, I get off and walk across the street, but always
someone crosses the red light. Once at the intersection near National Taiwan University I saw an accident: a taxi had stopped for the light, and another truck came
from behind and did not stop. For safety, it is very important for everyone to obey the traffic laws.
        (B) Traffic Safety
Traffic safety is everybodys business. Records show that every year a lot of people die in traffic accidents. Some of the accidents are due to mechanical problems. However, most of them are the results of careless and reckless driving, and could be avoided. A lot of people disregard traffic signals and rules. They drive regardless of speed limits, run through red lights, drive in the wrong direction, talk and laugh while driving, and turn as they wish without giving signals. They dont slow down while approaching crossroads. Only when everybody thinks traffic safety is everybodys business can we be safe driving on roads and walking on sidewalks.
         (C) There are too many cars in our streets
As our living standard is higher than it used to be, most people can now afford to own a car. As a result, there are too many cars in our streets. This is a symbol of high
economic development. However, it is also a shame that our streets become clogged with all kinds of automobiles. Not that our streets are not wide enough, but that our drivers seldom obey the traffic rules. Not that we dont understand the importance of observing the traffic rules, but that we in our selfishness refuse to observe them. The urgent problem at hand is how to reduce the traffic jam. I think the only way is to obey the rules----not only the drivers but also the pedestrians. Everybody should realize that the observance of the law is the first duty of a citizen.
              (D) About Traffic
In a modem society, we cant live without ears. Time is the most precious thing in the world, and cars save time for us. Besides, they also provide comfort and
convenience. Although cars have many advantages, however, too many cars in the streets create difficult problems. First of all, cars make too much noise, which gets on our nerves. Second, they are the main cause of air pollution, which deprives us of fresh air. Third, many people either loses their lives or is seriously injured in traffic accidents because our drivers are careless. Finally cars occupy too much space We really must try to keep the advantages of cars and get fid of the disadvantages.

A good reader is very much like a driver. He must change his reading speed to fit what he is reading and what he is reading for, just as a driver does to fit the road situation. A good reader may read at 1000 WPM when he looks for something for a report in the library. But once he finds what he needs, he may slow down to 100 WPM. A good reader may read newspapers and story books at 600 WPM. But he may read his science or math books at 150 WPM. Just as a driver has a wide change of driving speed, so a good reader has a wide change of reading speed.
